Michael Shapcott

Michael Shapcott was born on June 6, 1982 and grew up in Hartford, Connecticut. He studied Illustration for two years before switching to Fine Arts for the remainder of his studies at Paier College of Art in Hamden. Still in Connecticut, he has made a name for himself as a portrait painter.
Shapcott also produces videos documenting his process. He starts with highly detailed graphite drawing and then covers it bold washes of oil and acrylic. Being self-taught by experimentation also bolstered his confidence, says Shapcott, who credits his basic technique to his BFA studies but found he had to break away from these traditional methods to find a unique voice and style—one he continues to develops today.

Cecilia Paredes art

Cecilia Paredes was born in Lima, Peru, and lives and works in San Jose and Philadelphia, United States. Her recent photographic work is a conspicuous exploration of sensual surfaces in which the body is deliberately confused with nature and nature with the body.
Paredes’ photography demonstrates that the body of the woman – her own body – is a sacred zone, not profane, to restore its perception as something miraculous amidst the technological chaos that currently surrounds us. The body is revealed as a tool, a space for signs, and a creation that is intimately connected to our surrounding natural environments.

Artist Creates Amazing ‘Splatter Paint’ Portraits

Foshan-based Chinese street artist Chen Yingjie—also known as “Hua Tunan”—combines his training in classical Chinese painting with western graffiti style to create his incredible splatter paint portraits of animals. Using the relatively hard to control method of splattering paint, the artist was able to transform seemingly chaotic patterns into amazingly cohesive portraits of eagles, parrots, goldfish and even people. Hauntingly realistic and expressive, Twisted Sifter described his art as “organized confusion at its finest”.
